Fix H2O for $100 or buy something else?

My H2O unexplainable died the other day. It is only 2.5 years old and I have a lakemaster chip.

It is out of warranty and they want $100 to fix it. I didn't mistreat it, I liked it but I dont know If I trust the H2O now. Customer service is very questionable with long hold times and 3 day e-mail responses.

Any recommendations for a new reasonaly priced GPS? I like the Lakemaster chip.

If you shop around online you can find the H2O for around $130-140. If it's the b&w version you have and are considering fixing it, almost might as well just buy a new one. How is your screen holding up?

Now might be the time you want to upgrade to the color model?

I would go with what lotsofish said. You can find them online for just over a hundy. If you have the cash go up to the color.

I agree, probably not worth fixing a b/w version for $100, buying a new b/w version or upgrading to color is probably a better (although more expensive) way to go.

Even though their customer service is terrible with long wait times and email, their service and repair has always been quick and top-notch in my experience. Don't confuse the two. If you do decide to send it in for repair, do an on-line Return Authorization and save yourself the hassle of waiting to talk to customer service.

Out of desperation I tried some alternative fixes yesterday. Tried all of the resets and nothing worked. Started squeezing it and then smacked it with my hand on the battery side and wala....IT WORKS!!!

For how long? Who knows.... but my 152 waypoints are still there.

Da Crusher would be proud.

I would get a blank SD chip, throw it in and save your waypoints to it as a backup.
