Painting Over Paint

Recommended Posts

I have some older jigs that i really like but the paint is wearing away.. Can I paint new colors back over the old stuff? I have some folkart Outdoor paint that i picked up for cheap at WalMart will this work?

Thanks for the help!

crappieman. chipped up jigs can be repaired with powder paint but it's a little difficult. i'd say your best bet is to get some vynl jig paint from just about any place that sells lures. very easy to do. just dip them in and dry. i'd say no on the paint from walmart. i'm thinking it's not very durable

Ok thanks for your help... I tried the walmart stuff just for the heck of it and it is drying now we will see what happens.. Is there anything you can put over the paint to harden it or make it more glossy.. I heard someone say in another post fingernail polish works good is this true? I think if i put something hard over the paint they would work well...

coat them with enamel clear coat car paint. that's easiest. nail hardener works for a cheap fix too. two part epoxy is more in depth but a little better. mabe you could take a look at dark clouds thread about powder coating jigs. you might be inspired to just get new raw(unpainted) jigs and do them up.

The other thing that you could do that would require a little more work is use a steel brush to get the last of the old paint off and re-apply a new powder paint, then just cure them with some extra heat after they have dried and they should last a long time. dark clouds post explains the powder paint procedure quite well.
