I would like to introduce myself

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. especially those of you in Nebraska. I will be moving to a town in North central Nebraska. The Town is Atkinson.

I am moving there for a Job that i am overseeing.

I not married any longer. And my Son has moved to Texas. I will be making this move there on my own. Not knowing anyone there. I will be looking forward to making some new friends. I love the Outdoors, and hunt and fish when i can. I hope to hook up with some new hunting and Fishing budies out there.

I have a 16.5 foot Alumacraft Classic and am looking forward to getting out on some water out there. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Nebraska. Atkinson is a great town, nice golf course. Everyone is super friendly. You are close (enough) to Merrit, Valentine Refuge Lakes, Calumus Resevoir, and Francis Case (SD). You should be sitting good. I don't make it out to the Valentine area much, but have had good fishing there. Calumus can be a great lake, plus they have been stocking muskies in there for several years. There should be some real trophies in there. Great walleye, wiper, catfish, and crappie fishing there.

I am going to "get to know" Francis Case this year. Lots of potential there. Big water. Let me know how you do this year. I can give you some pointers on FC and Calumus if needed. Your boat will be just fine. Good luck and enjoy the "cowboy town".

Check the ngfp dot com HSOforum for more lakes. (Nebraska Game Fish and Parks)

Well the fishing during the summer was not as good as I hoped. I spent quite a bit of time on Calamus, and Francis Case. and did not get into very much fish. Let alone any walleyes. Now that it is winter i am looking forward to hitting some ponds and some of the lakes around the refuge near Valentine.

Was Calamus slow this year? I didn't get to it, but fished F.C. a couple of times. Had mixed success there, but it is a big lake and a big learning curve. A friend just bought a cabin up there, so I imagine I will be learning the lake a little more often.

Good luck ice fishing. The refuge lakes should provide plenty of action.

It was for me. But Again it was a new body of water for me. i went about it like i was fishing lakes in Northern Minnesota. So that may have been my problem.

Heading out to Pelican lake near valentine this weekend to do some ice fishing.

Pelican had some guys out there. everyone was tip up fishing for Northerns.I drove up to the Missouri river in the morning, but there was a foot and half of standing water on the shore edge. I didn't have boots that high. I could not find anywhere along the shore line to cross at.

So I decide to head to Valentine. I stopped at Akali (spelling?) there were 6 guys out in the center no houses not TV's or anything. I thought I could not drive out with My ATV so I headed to Pelican. Found out I could not drive out there either. But I was told I could on Akali. Wish I knew that I would have gone back and set up for some night Time crappie fishing.

SO I will be out and about this weekend.
