Dark Cloud
Built this rod months ago and have been fishing it but never got around to a butt wrap. Was planning on a cheveron but ended up diamondizing a "split" cheveron. I still need to re-pack all the threads. I may add a nother wrap or two of the black and finish with a single orange? But im getting kinda sick of this rod, lol... The guides are done in dark blue with orange trim... The rod is a 12 ft 6-7 wt float/centerpin rod on a Rainshadow blank. Springs comming and the trout and steelies are in trouble...

upnorth
Nice color combo. I would have never thought of blue and orange going together.
Dark Cloud
Al - Im very happy with the blank. I have caught some 20+ inch trout and fought a few steelies with it. I wanted a 11-12 ft blank that was mutli piece with some guts without breaking the bank. Didnt find many options. This was a "spey" blank and they can be tip heavy but I built it with recoil giudes and weighted the butt a tad - perfect UpNorth - Im always playing with color combos, got tired of the maroon/red and gold. The blue orange seems to work well so does swapping out the orange for rust or yellow...
upnorth
I am kinda partial to the different shades of blue. But I use a lot of metallic to go with it. I also started using Mettler polyester embroidery thread in size 40. There are way more colors to chose from than the standard rod threads. It is a bit finer, and it takes more turns to wrap but if you are looking for strong, thin and light it works great. I like especially on ultra lights and fly rods. If anyone experiments with different types of threads, stay away from Cotton and Rayon just don't work, no where near strong enough for wrapping rods.
