tom_w
I heard we have striped bass in the Mississippi. Anyone caught one? I wonder how big they get here.Tom
DTro
You must be referring to White Bass. Yes we have them here, and they are a blast to catch. The biggest they get is probably 4-5lbs. Average fish is around 12-15”. 17-20” are considered really big. Find some warmer water in the spring and fall and pitch small crankbaits or twister tails and and hang on! polarsusd81
White bass, sometimes also referred to as silver bass. They can get up to about 5 lbs, but most will be in the 1 to 2.5 lb range. They are fun to catch and are similar in shape to a white crappie. More elongated with a hump-looking back. I think the water gets too cold for the stripers to make it this far north, but you never know.White bass and Stripers do sometimes cross-spawn and create hybrid stripers, which could probably withstand a little colder water, but it would be tough to find them up here too. Arkansas is the home to some of the best Striper fishing around, worth a look if you would like to catch some giant freshwater fish.
