What were we Thinking?????

Recommended Posts

we decided today was gonna be a great day to head out do some coyote calling..........

We started out before sunrise and if you weren't in the wind, it wasn't that bad, until you faced the wind. We made 6 sets, and had no responders, nothing, nada, el zippo. In fact we didn't even call in a crow. We saw a lot of coyote tracks, but let's face it, with a temperature that didn't see the good side of zero until we got home and 20-30 mph winds, the coyotes must have been laughing themselves silly.

Oh well, it was better than staying at home in the house.....Thank god for Under Armor and polar fleece

to be honest I will take below degree weather any day with a little wind, not 25mph wind but some! Another thing you gotta keep in mind that it is the start of a full moon, they will be doing most of their traveling under the moon for the next couple of days.

yeah, the wind really took the starch out of our briches....timing sucked too, but it was the only time we could get together, correct that, it was the only time I could get out......

what does an out of state license cost a guy in ND now. Also, in the western part of the state are there praire dogs and trout steams like in SD? Trying to get some stuff together for a trip in the summer of 2009. It will take me that long to get all the ammo loaded up....

Speaking of cold weather...what's your thoughts on severely cold mornings and nights? We had -22 air temps last night, and they're calling for close to -30 tonight if it stays clear. If there's little wind, will the coyotes/fox move more during the middle of the day, or lay around soaking up as much sun as they can and look for food when it's the coldest? I'm planning to do some serious scouting this afternoon and maybe try a couple sets Wed. and Thursday depending on what I find.

I got two responses under the moon last night, one was my first set at about -8. The other was at 2am with -16. For the most part i feel they move from dark to about 12-2am if it isn't to cold, above 10-15below, After that i think they wait until midmorning and are cruising around. They were out last night so this morning there wasnt a thing, tommorow morning, if the wind stays down they will be out but best to wait til 9-10am before looking. They will be out in the moon tomorrow night to. Its kind of a gamble. Some days they are out and some nights they are out. I have called all moon nights with nothing, only to see them out a noon the next day. If i could figure it out i'd be rich.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
