Drywall Question

Recommended Posts

My house is 3 years old and I have some screws that are slighty popping out. Is this typical of a new home and what is the best way to fix them? I was thinking about carefully pounding them back in with a hammer and then putting some mud on the dents and painting?? Thanks,

Yep, that should work. Hopefully you don't have to much of that happening thou. If you do I would call the contractor who built the house and tell him about it. Sounds like a sheetrocking crew that was paid by the square foot. They tend to throw it up as fast as they can and don't worry about the small stuff like tightening screws.

You could try to call the drywall crew, but their warranty ran out after the first year. You would be better off tapping them in and adding new joint compound. New home warranties are one year on construction, two years on mechanical, and ten years on mjor structural.

I would put a screw on each side of the "popped" screw and then make sure you clean out all the dried mudd with a puddy knife or a scraper. and then mud it back over. I would also check that you don't have a severly warped or even broken stud behind the drywall, causing the popping.

I do not recomend hammering a screw back in if anything scrape the screw clean of dried mud and try to screw it back in

Jar Jar
