Sharpening your own blades...

I have a Strikemaster Lazer Mag. The blades are a little dull and was wondering if anyone has ever put a stone to the blade to sharpen it up as opposed to buying replacement blades$$. I just think if you took the time and did it right they would be just as good as replacement blades, saving $$.

Well, I tried to do it to the blades on the Mag III I bought at the beginning of the season and it worked alright. I did end up buying new blades, but only because I'm a novice at sharpening blades, I'm sure a competent person could very easily sharpen them to like new.

There are a number of grinding jigs available from woodworking shops which are normally used for sharpening plane blades. I would think the same jigs would work for ice blades.

haha i just made this mistake last weekend. i sharpened my blades without thinking the pitch of the blade would be altered. well i got out there only to realize that it BARELY cut the ice, like it would have taken me over an hour to cut a hole(hand auger)..so i went to an old hole and luckily there was only like 3 inches in it so i could still fish until my friend came 3 hours later with his power auger.
