TMT
Has anyone installed a trim gauge before? Is it hard/expensive? My father-in-law bought a pontoon last year and the lake he is on has very shallow spots, and you can't see the motor because of the sun deck/bed in back, so you have to leave the wheel to check how high the motor is. It drives me crazy! My father-in-law got it quoted and it was over $400. Just wondering if I should try to tackle it. Any feed back would be appreciated. kjgmh
What motor, some come with a sender mounted on the motor and some dont'. That would be a big part of the price if you have to add one.
marine_man
It's not a hard project typically - but depends a little on the motor brand.I would venture a guess that Valv has some used trim gauges and that you could pick up the sender online for cheaper than you could from the dealer. If you're mechanically inclined it should be a pretty straight forward job.marine_man
TMT
It is a '07 60hp 4-stroke yamaha. I don't know if it has the sender unit on it or not? How can you tell?
marine_man
Raise the motor all the way up. Stand on the LH side of the motor. Look on the bracket that is mounted to the transom and see if there is a black plastic arm that is attached to the mount bracket. If you have that all you need is a gauge and maybe a harness. Does he have any other motor related gauges? That will make a difference on the harness.marine_man
kjgmh
That motor should have a trim sender, it is mounted in the center and reads off of an arm that is on the tube were the steering cable goes through. You will probably need a harness depending on how the boat was rigged originally. Make sure that you get a trim gauge for a Yamaha though or it will read back wards...
