Vexilar FL8 Beep

I have one that beeps, it has 3 knobs on the right side, top to bottom: gain, depth picker??, and the power setting. Here is how it works, everything is normal with the gain and the bottom knob, however the middle knob you can pull out and select different depths, a red line appears. After you select the depth you push it back in. Next is the crazy part any time there is a fish in between the red line and the top it beeeps. This is the only one I have seen like this, anybody have any experience with these good or bad?

That was one of the first FL-8"S. I had one a long time ago. It is a fish alarm. so if your fishing the bottom and a fish comes up higher it lets you know.I think its nice to sit back at mid day and take a brake from fishing and let the Vex do the work. I wish I had it on my FL-18!!

It is kind of a nice feature, it would be a nice alarm in the middle of the night in the permanent!! I have a newer FL8 without, but I am conflicted on getting rid of one of em!!
