pond fishing

Is it an aerated pond? If not, they may have gone dorment by now. This is where they just lower their metabolism and don't really eat. I have a goldfish pond in my yard that isn't real big. I stop feeding them early october and don't start again until late march. They just shut down.

Have you located them but they are unwilling to bite? It may have something to do with oxygen depletion causing the fish to go dormant and conserve energy. If it is a shallower pond it probably winter kills and the fish that do survive tend to grow fast/big with little competition for food. This would account for the big fish you do catch.
