Rifle Stock ?'s

What should I use to maintain the shine on a rifle stock? Most of the stock is in great shape except for small area that looks like it's getting "dried out" and losing its glossy look.

I do not know the total effect on the wood but I have over the years used Pledge furniture polish for my rifle and shotgun stocks and it seems to do a very nice job and help repel water or moisture on the wood.
