Boat Loading

cray

Question

I just bought a new trailer. The old one was a roller. The new one is a bunk. With the roller I would back in so the last roller was just under water and that worked pretty well at getting it on straight.

How far in do I need to sink the trailer with a bunk?

Is spraying silicone on the bunks a good idea?

How far away from the sides of the boat should I set my bunk guides?

Thanks for the help. I need all I can get.

It's a trial and error result. Try to back up to 1/2 of bunks in water, then see if boat loads easy or not, then adjust the distance for the next time. You can always get back on the truck and back up in the water a little more.

You can use silicone to help sliding boat on when winching.

I would keep the side bunks 3" to 5" from each side of the boat, they are needed just to line you up. But be careful I had some boats with nasty scuffs from side bunk rubbing against hull.

We would normally reccomend leaving about 12" of bunk out of the water, That should give you about the right amount of floatation to get you to within a foot or so of the winch. Like Valv said, adjust back or forward to minimize amount of dragging on.

some thing i learned from the guys here, was ; when loading. back your trailer so the bunks are completely under water, then pull it out to where you want it. this lubricates the carpeting, and you will be able to winch the boat "that last little extra" so it is snug against the roller .( i can crank my 17ft ranger up snug this way!)i'm not much for spraying stuff on the bunks. just more stuff in the water.

you will have to learn by trail and error as to how far to back the trailer in. as to how far to back in? i go so about 3/4 of the bunks are under water.like i say! trail and error! del
