Underwater Camera

Looking at getting an underwater camera...What are your experiences with the illumination source, IR vs. LED lighting? Does the LED spook fish? Do you sacrifice depth of field with the IR? Debating on the Marcum cams with LED vs. the Cabelas cams with IR.

Thanks

I've got a camera with multiple light settings, not even sure what they all are anymore it's been so long since I've used them, but I always pull my camera and switch to the flasher at dusk. My camera is a few years old now and maybe they have made some improvements, but I think most camera owners will tell you to pack it up at night.

I have an aqua- vu and have only used it twice. The first time I used it this year the camera seemed to spook the crappies in the hole. Put the camera down- all of the fish disappear from the flasher. Bring the camera up, jig a little, the fish slowly return to the bait. This makes me reluctant to use the camera. Maybe I am using it wrong? Like maybe I had the camera to close to the bait? Don't know but I am reluctant to use it if it will keep the fish away.

Havent had a problem with my aqua view, the led's on it dont work for dump so like joe said pull it up at night and hook it up to the led's. even with clear water the led's dont work. i have found it to not scare fish, especially not bother walleyes one bit.

--only problem is that battery seems to die in 5 hrs or less anyone else have this problem??

I have an Aqua Vu with IR lighting and like everyone else has said it is time to switch to the flasher at dusk. I have not had a problem with it spooking fish. I have even had several swim up to it to take a look.

Same here with the battery charge not holding more than a few hours. Just when you happen on good school, a huge black blob starts from the bottom of you screen and fade to black.......

At first I thought it was weak because it sat on the shelf to long.

I got the cabelas kind last year and love it. What i like is the battery is your standard 12 volt battery that can be replaced or used for other means when fishing. I have fished for 9 hours straight with out any power problems. If you need to replace the battery, go buy a new one and slide it in. some other cameras arnt. The only thing i dont like is after dark, the IR helps make all the small particles in the water light up and is difficult to see much in un clear water. Lastly, get a tripod or something similar, it is worth it. I got one seperate from the camera, it comes with a stopper which helps to stabilize it you can also spend more and get a motorized one which would be nice but not necessary. If i were to make the decision again on which camera to buy, i would have made the same decision. Happy fishing, the Perch.
