Just went out and purchased new showdown wow what a great unit for the $. I have a Fl18 also so i can tell you what for 229 it can do anything the fl18 can do the target seperation in zoom mode is unreal. Both are great units but for the price it aint bad.Used it next to my FL18 and a buddies FL20 there was a little interference at first but with a little tweeking everything cleared up.I used to sell electronics at a northern minnesota sporting goods store. This is pretty good unit

I tried a friends FL-18, next to my 22yr old FL-8. The az and bottom lock were really nice. But could still catch nmore fish with my FL-8. Think it has to do with the 22 yrs of use.

Yeah the specs on the showdown are looking pretty good. I was actually going to get one but went to gander in EP and was told that all the showdowns they were supposed to get got recalled. The thing i really like about is that it is upgradeable. Oh well maybe next year i can find one

there wasn't a recall it was a update for free the new showdown already has the upgrades done.

Yeah that is what I thought but the guys at gander said they had to send them back and that was the reason for having no stock of them. maybe just a uninformed employee. I ended up getting a marcum vx-1 instead.

How do you like that vx-1? I am debating between the two. And maybe the original poster can tell me how the LCD works in the cold on the Showdown.

My dad and one of my buddies both have the showdown and in the cold they work fine. We were out in 10-15 degree temps and my buddy didn't even turn on the ice mode and it was still doing good.

Like I said on a previous thread, I was impressed with nature vision's customer service. I sent my dad's VPG (last years model which is now the showdown) in and had them do the update. It was back within 2 days and is now a showdown. To beable to reprogram it with better software is probably a really good thing.

That being said,I still prefer my vexilar, but the showdown has to be the best bang for the buck these days.
