Anyone ever use a camera while fishing for trout?

After reading everyones input under the ice fishing for brookies and rainbow thread I plan on bringing my camera the next time I go ice fishing for trout. I am going fish shallow though and point it down just under the ice so I don't have to be hunched over all day to "sight" fish.

I think it would be worth it. I just got a camera and have never used it for Lake Trout yet but plan to in Feb. The water clarity is 10ft in the lake we are going to so I think it will help possibly locate them easier. I am going to try pointing it down and have it locked on my jig while I work it.

I took my camera to the Cenaiko opener and saw about 15 fish on the camera. Usually it was just one fish, but once I saw two on the screen at the same time. They did not seem to be spooked by the camera, in fact it almost seemed to attract them. One thing I noticed is that the trout will often strike once, and miss, and then come right back and swallow the bait, so....if you get a hit, and there's no fish on....put your bait right back down there, because there is probably a hungry trout down there looking for your bait.

Tried using one on Courthouse for opener a few years back, I couldn't even see my jig from five feet away. But I kept it in the water hoping to see something swim by, the trout didn't just swim by, but they actually came over and checked out my plastic plant encased camera. They were lookin for food in the plastic plants, no doubt about it. And every trout that smiled for me on camera found it's way into my smoker. grin.gif

Tried the camera on a trout lake up north, after losing two 20"+ 'bows due to tangling in the camera cord, I yanked it. I generally use the camera for locating where I want to fish structure wise, then I pull it. I suppose on a lake with some super clarity, I'd set it up 15' or more away from my presentation. It's fun watching them on camera, but once you lose a nice fish due to the camera, you'll be cursing it. blush.gif

I am going to try a lake upnorth late next month that has 12ft water clarity with my Cabelas Underwater camera. I also figured out a way to hook up my video camera to record what is going on down there so hopefully I will have some video to share.
