dryer making noise

LovenLifeGuy

Question

Our dryer is sqeeking very loud when on. Anyone know what this is. Do I need to lube something? Do they have belts? It sound more like metal than a belt tho. It is a kenmore dryer that is stacked on top of the washer. I think it is about 8 years old.

Thanks

Ours was done by a Service Plus tech (as I watched). He literally had it apart in minutes. I know watching someone else always makes it "look easy" but this time it really was. Every model is different though, so your job may not go the same. Without the service program we have I would have done it myself and had no problem. An parts you need you can get at Dey appliance in Coon Rapids.

Ours has a plastic bushing that the drum stud sits in. I lube it more often now, about twice a year, and have replaced it once in 11+ years. It is a Westinghouse and quite easy to get at once I downloaded directions from somewhere on the web. I fix medical equipment all day long so this was a breeze to me. If yours is a stack unit, that might make it tougher to get at but just need to find the right cover to take off. Do make sure and unplug it first. I stupidly neglected that part and in sliding a cover off shorted out the heating element. Mine has one side of 220 on it at all times. That little lesson cost me about $50.

I have had these make noise and bear. go out in the past.

There is a couple of them that support the drum. You will find which one is loose/junk, when you take it apart. I would replace all of them.

I would not rule out a tentioner either. Being a "stack" combo, it may be differnt than what I have repaired in the past.

Good luck!
