prov1900
Planning an ice trip to either Devils or Lake Winnipeg in March. How is the bite on Devils in March, say 3rd week. Is the ice there OK yet? Thinking about jumping on the perch patrol thing. I have my own equipment. ATV, Clam, auger, Vex, etc. Can I go out and have luck finding fish on my own? Never been there, would like to make it a annual gig, summer/winter.
skee0025
I haven't been able to make it up there for an ice fishing trip yet, but the wife and I spend a week up there every year. We always catch alot of fish, several 7-10 lbs walleyes last summer, and hooked 5 fish we didn't get to lay eyes on because they were to big to get off the bottom. I'm already looking forward to the trip in July.
marine_man
That's a tough call...As good as the fishing can be on Devils Lake I'm still partial to fishing the Red River / Lake Winnipeg for a better (in my opinion) chance of catching a trophy walleye. Not that Devils Lake doesn't have them, but I believe the Red River and Lake Winnipeg has them in a greater concentration at certain times of the year than Devils Lake does. But, I guess it all depends on what you're after.. if you're mostly interested in a multispecies trip, devils lake is probably the place to head to.If you're after Walleyes with a chance to catch a trophy walleye, I'd head to Canada. Also, remember that the exchange rate is more or less equal now, so things will cost more than they used to up there in US funds.Good luck in your decision!marine_man
