Clam 5600 tear down

When you are done fishing and ready to tear down do you leave the caanvas on the poles and fold the poles in or do the poles come off like the old clam junior.

Am thinking of getting the 5600 but am unsure of this detail.

Thanks,

I keep my canvas on everytime and I leave stuff like the icescoop and rod holders in it. I love the 5600 for solo fishing and fits two nicely but I do wish I had gone with the 6800 be alot more comfortable with two.

I'll second grogan's recommendation on the 6800. It is bigger to haul, but for two people is much nicer than a 5600 (especially if you are in it all day). If you go the 5600 route, make sure you buy some of those frabill hook so you can hang some of your gear - otherwise with 2 people, you will be steping on your gear, or have to leave it outside.

I just hang my gear, (coats, ready rig cases...etc) on plastic coat hangers from the support poles in the roof. If the hangers have a hard ridge, I taped them with electic tape so the material wouldnt rub through. I like the 5600 better than the 6800 because the material of the base seems more substantial.

I thought the same about the base and that is why I wsa going to purchase the 5600. I saw the add at Cab and called they already sold out. The other stores won't price match if there not in stock at the advertising store.

What a shame I was looking forward to buying one.

I think you would really be happier with a 6800.There is more room and with all the equipment we have now for ice fishing, you will need the room. I have a 6800 and next to the discovery of the wheel, these clams are right up there with it. Fast, light and very convenient. And yes, you just fold the canvaas down with the poles. hope this helps.
