MNHuntress
I see there's a whole lot of smoking going on on this forum, was wondering if anyone ever smoked dog beef bones like they have at the butcher shop. I smoke lots of sausage and fish and that gave me the idea that while I'm smoking fish I could just throw some beef bones in there. Was wondering for how long and do you have to go with a certain temp because of the marrow in the bone? Any ideas would be helpful and I've tried the net already to no avail. Most dogs love them and they make great doggie x-mas presents too
irvingdog
Cold smoking probably would not be bad, but exposing bone to heat meats potential for splintering. Not a good idea for ol' Buster to get ahold of bone shards.....
fisherking01
definitely don't want dried out bones. Best Idea is to baste and keep moist, ie. bake in broth, or boil in broth. You need to use thick bones like the butcher has, bones like ribs dry out quickly and will splinter. Keep Fido happy and healthy, Brent
loosegoose
I purchase large smoked beef rib bones from a local butcher for $.50. Cheap and what a great way to use that part of the beef. I cut them in half and its a great treat for the pooch.
bassNspear
smoke the shank bones. You cant dry them out. They will always stay moist.
