Canadian Lake Trout Fishing

Recommended Posts

We are just starting to make some good ice up here, if anyone is still looking for a great spot for a winter trout trip - look no further than Camp Manitou.

We offer a little adventure with your trout fishing excursion. We are not located just off a highway or even near a highway, we travel in 15 miles by a good gravel road, just off the 502 northeast of Fort Frances and then snowmobile 6 miles to a remote island resort. We only offer 4 winter cabins, so you will have this winter paradise to youself and a few of your good fishing friends.

You can view our HSOforum at www.campmanitoufishing.net or click on our sponsor banner in the Canada section.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to contact us, we have limited space.

Be sure to inquire about any FM specials that may be going on.

Thanks,

Matt Koerbitz

What is your availabilty looking like for March for a group of 4? We have been talking about heading your way.

Do you know how Ted & Fay Davis are these days? We have a fly-in camp on Shikag Lake and I haven't seen them much since they sold Moose Point.

Yes, I know Ted and Faye. I just talked to Ted last week.

Right know I have room for 4 people on the first weekend of march and room on either the 3rd or 4th weekend for up to 8 people. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Send me an e-mail with what dates you would like at [email protected]

I will be out of town between friday and wednesday, so the best way to contact me is through e-mail.

What is your name?, I could tell him Hi for you, I am suppose to get ahold of him right after christmas.

Thanks,

Matt

Matt, We have had the only other camp on Shikag since 1980. Most people call it Johnson's but there are other members. Tell the Davis' happy holidays from Mike & Terry Carlson in HIbbing. Tell Ted that Brad the new owner dosen't deliver fresh bread like Ted used to. We miss them alot.

The only times I have been on Manitou is with Ted. I have friends from Hibbing that have camps on Manitou but I never can go when they want.

The main lake is not froze and the stretch is froze over in most spots, but there is alot of slush. The ice is only 2-7 inches with open pockets. With the warm temps we are having we are not looking good for opener.

I will be up fishing at Dogfly right after opener, I can give you an update after I get back. What type of machine do you drive? If I see you around, I will stop and say hello. I run a green Polaris widetrack.

Hey CedarNarrowsguy,

I run a silver arctic cat 660T bearcat, if you see me stop over and say hello.

I think I met your father-in-law?, during deer season at esox landing - he was moose hunting.

Be very careful in the bays there are alot of springs in different bays keeping some open pockets of water open. We have not had very cold temps and we have had alot of snow, so I am not expecting good ice until late jan. hopefully after we get some good cold weather.

Hi Mike,

Send me an e-mail at [email protected] if you have narrowed down some dates in march for a trout fishing trip. I have been getting quite a few calls for Mid feb. to Mid march and I would like to get you guys a spot before they fill. We only take a max of 14 in our 3 winter cabins, so they can fill quickly.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,

Matt Koerbitz

I will be up this weekend, Things inproved greatly from the 3rd weekend in feb. to the last weekend in feb. You can ride just about anywhere in the stretch and its a nice ride, if you go up to the big lake it's still bumpy. We had alot of wind, so it smoothed the lake out. Good Luck

Hey Cedarnarrows,

I was up the weekend of march 29-30 and you would have thought it was jan. There was alot of snow and 24-30 inches of ice, with nothing melting at all.

I am going back this weekend for a couple of days and I am taking my sleds, from the reports I am getting things havn't changed much.

I am not expecting Ice out until mid may if things stay like this.

Good Luck

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
