Portable heaters, Are they safe?

Tim, I just felt like you were directing at me and not merely just the topic at hand...stating something as basic chemistry as incorrect to compare to something as the propertys of hemoglobin bonding. That's two different things. How can you refute basic combustion? Danger #1 consume O2 give off CO2. Danger#2 lack of O2 gives off CO. Danger #3 CO bonds to hemoglobin over 200 times more than O2. It's not CO, but the propertys of hemoglogin bonding to favor CO over O2.

Anyway, if my old science teacher says so, then I believe him...a catylic converter helps to aid in the breakdown of dangerous gas...I get it pretty much implying that CO will become CO2 in the air. How else is it gonna happen? I don't know, but maybe it does otherwise CO will remain in the air and eventually we'll all die from CO poisioning because there's not enough precious metals or whatever you refer to radicals to change it. I don't know if photosynthesis utilized CO but I heard they breakdown CO2.

grin.gif I wanna concentrate on ice fishing, not agruing the symmantecs of correctness. Yep, maybe a brewski will change to mood. I might be on Clear lake this weekend. see ya around.

Good luck on Clear. I am excited to be heading up to Upper Red this weekend, otherwise I'd bring the brew to share.

If you see a black one man flip-over with DNR #'s spraypainted on in yellow - towed by an old snowmobile out there, that is me. Come on over and let's talk some fishing. And maybe some chemistry - I'm weird and I like that stuff.

SM1, Sportsmans Warehouse in Woodbury has about 10 Re-manufactured Tuff Buddies (heavy duty) and normal Buddies for $80...I think it was

.

They also have a good deal on the normal Buddy heaters.

They seem to range about $30 in price depending where you look. That's like 2 cases of beer grin.gif

Funny thing is I have not seen a Tuff Buddy anywhere else...even on the MR. Heater site.

Good Luck,

Ferny

FYI - I got a Tough Buddy from Lowes last year, for really cheap on clearance. I can't really tell the diff between it and a normal one, except it is yellow not red. Works the same. They usually go on sale about end of January, if I recall. Heard about the sale here on FM, was great deal at about $40 I think. They had Big Buddys for like $70 or some rediculous price - I should have picked one of those up as well... ha! oh well.

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
