It does run on D cell batteries.. but also come with an adapter to plug into a cig lighter... So its not like it always runs on D cell batteries.. Like the above poster states, its probably not as nice as the higher end units, as why would you buy the higher end units. But for someone who cant afford the higher end units, and wants an underwater camera.. I think this is a good option.

I have not used one yet.. But I have used quite a few items that NatureVision/Aqua-Vu have made and have been pleased with what I have bought.

"Power is supplied by 10 C batteries (not included) or 12-volt using included FREE power cord." From Cabelas web site.

10 C sized batteries would get pretty expensive every time it dies, but if the power cord means you can get your typical "Vexilar" battery and a charger it's not so bad of a deal. With that you're already looking at around $50 in addition to the camera.

I would do some looking around to see what else is out there, or even look at used gear.

If it is the same as the one I saw at Cabela's it takes 10 D cell batteries. and yes it can also be pluged in. I went with the cabelas brand that was $179 that comes with a rechargable battery and charger. I was told but cant say for sure that the batteries only last like 8 hours so I figure the money I save in batteries it was worth buying the $179 dollar one with a 7inch screen. Also the $179 dollar one comes with a nice case.
