Deitz Dittrich
Today while out fishing, I drilled 46 holes before I found the fish. When I found them, I hit the mother load. Couldn't get a jig to the bottom without a crappie or sunfish with their lips all over it!Just wish I would have drilled that hole first.. LMAO! SuddenlySummer
I'd have to say that my record is 2. I bit the bullet last year and drove to URL. Never been there before. I drilled two holes within three feet of each other and landed on the best fishing I'd ever done.
Guest
My first trip to URL....I drilled 2 holes about an hour before dark... Since the bite isn't suppose to happen til' dusk I decided to prepare the lantern...I returned to the hole to see a red blip on the Vex...Jigged the rod, up the blip came...BOOM....13" Crappie to the bottom of the hole and off it came. Another red blip....BOOM, bottom of hole and off it came...Dang... I got my limit that evening....and they quit at dark for me... The anxiety of seeing the blip on the locator the 1st time that night was something special, maybe because of all the expectations and hype.... Guest
Are we talking how many holes have we drilled before giving up or catching fish, or are we talking how quickly the hole has become the right hole? There is a lake that I fish that doesn't have a lot of gills in it, but the ones in it are huge. It is a fairly small, bowl-shaped lake that has steep shorelines. The gills suspend over deep water anywhere from 12 to 15 feet off the bottom during the day and can be hard to locate through the ice without a lot of hole punching. Its nice with clear ice when you can shoot through the ice to find them. There have been times where I have made the lake look like swiss cheese before I have found them. (kinda like that StrikeMaster ad you see in magazines) When out exploring new territory there have been times buddies and I have drilled anywhere from 10 to 150 holes. Some times it takes a lot of holes to find what you're looking for. Like in your experience, sometimes that last hole is the mother load. Boy is it nice when you find it...... the big dipper
I've been fishing the same hole in the ice for three years. This year it's failing to produce alot of fish like it did in years previous. I guess I'm pretty stuborn and hard headed. I've tried a couple other spots on the lake, but I go back to that same hole. I've tried it early, mid afternoon , and late. So far 1 fish per each try is all I get. I just hope the little pond didn't get fished out last summer.
