are they huntable? like snowmobile, atv, or walking trails?

anybody...is this question that stupid? I was just wondering, some of those up north deep rural trails would be nice to hunt grouse and such off of. Anybody have and info if its possible?

If the trail is on State land then yes can walk and hunt them.

Some of these trails go through private property were the landowner grants access to snowmobiles only. A plat book will show ownership but theres one problem, the trails aren't on the plat book. If the trail is a Grant In Aid you can bet theres private property. Grant as in Granted permission for snowmobile use. State trails are normally routed through State land but there'll still be private lands to connect that State land. Sometimes you'll see signs along the trail stating that your entering private property but thats not always the case. In the end its up to you to know where your at.

Without the trails on plat books how is that done?

Before GPS I'd map the trails with a compass, something I learned to do as a Boy Scout. I'd put that into the same scale as the plat book and well it isn't perfect but at least I had an idea where I was. I did this in one stand location that I knew was getting close to undeveloped tax forfeit land and state land. 10 years later that tax land was surveyed and divided up and sold. My stand was 50 ft on the wrong side of the survey cut, I was close but not close enough and the new land owner got a bonus stand in a spot that was know for taking very large bucks.
