carpmaster4
Me and the father in law were out pheasant hunting today and his black lab went on point and has never done this before and he is 4 years old. It ended up being a hen but it was the collest thing to see. We ended up getting out limit today and the two i shot both landed in a pond but the dog still found it. It was probably one of the best days hunting ye this year even with all the deer hunters out there.

SDbowhunter
My lab and his mother both point. I think his mother is from a good bloodline but she was a stray so its impossible to tell. I have heard that some labs take a while to do it. My dog is only 1.5 yrs old started pointing this year didnt at all last year. Praise her and hopefully it will continue. uplander
The one lab I owned did the same thing at 4 years and did it on almost every bird the rest of her life...Maybe that's why I love the pointing breeds now.....enjoy it ...uplander
grab the net
My lab has been pointing since he was 2. If the bird holds tight, he holds with it, but if the bird even moves an inch, he dives in. Just got back from a trip and he pointed a bunch with about a third of them being roosters. Most of them were 1st year birds, just one long tail that thought he could fool us by sitting still and hoping we would walk right by. We were walking with the wind and Duey did the about face and just locked up. Had to kick the grass to get him to move. Even when you know they are there its a rush when they flush.
