Gulp on ice

I catch walleyes and lakers on the bigger power shiners through the ice. I dont think they would out produce minnow heads on spoons or raps. Not nearly as much scent put out and not a scent of blood at all. They seem to work well on Lindy Flyers and other darting jigheads. I tend to keep them moving more than I would a regular minnow.

Never used it in place of the minnow heads...just use the grubs and red worms for pannies in the winter. It is supposed to leave a scent trail...but I wonder if anything beats actual blood and guts.

Who knows?

i don't know that i would try it on spoons, raps, or darters. I never tip a darter. An underwater camera really helps to decide if something will work or not. I use gulp minnows with a 1/16th or 1/8 jig head and watch it on the camera, if it doesn't look right, i change the way i hook it until it does. I've had good luck with that combination, but a real head or nothing works better for me on spoons or raps.

I'd use Gulp only to give something a little bit of sent. The action of some of the smaller Gulp maggots and such doesn't really appeal to me. However, I'll tip spoons and jigs with a small piece when needed...

The new Gulp Alive minnows might work well on crappies and walleyes under the ice though, I'm gonna give them a shot this winter...
