rippinlips
Shot a nice call buck Wed. night I had a buddy of mine with and we both sat in my 2 man ladder stand. I gave my buddy first crack at the buck when he came in and at ten feet he missed and then he missed again at 15 yards and then again at 20 yards Ya that's right he missed 3 times and ten minutes later the buck came right back in and at 10 feet and that's when I shot him because my buddy was out of arrows and the buck ran 20 yards and down he went double lung and top of the heart. In my buddies defense this is his 2nd year bowhunting and the first time he had a deer close enough to shoot and he was shaking so bad I thought the tree was going to tip over. It was still a great experience when you can share times like that with friends and family.
Slow Jigger
That was a gret time I bet! You can give him a good hearted ribbing now and still enjoyed the time in the stand!Got any pics of the deer? someone is bound to ask!?
rippinlips
No I didn't get any pictures it started to rain hard when I was gutting it and after that straight to the freezer he went. His 8 point rack is nothing great just really thin and odd and he was already 3 years old. Great buck to get out of the gene pool and he had road rash on his left shoulder. I do have a trailcam picture of him if I could e-mail to someone to put on the form for me that would be great.
Knute78
You must have meant cull buck. Are you actively managing the property and removing inferior genes from the herd? If so, what are some of your approaches to accomplishing this when in MN you can only harvest one buck per year/person? Do alot of people hunt your property...I am just curious. Knute78
Yeah that is the perfect answer. Sounds like you are doing things the right way...getting others involved etc...We need people like in the sport...it would be an awesome twist if you got some younger "next generation" hunters involved to introduce them to the sport and accomplish your management goals. Either way sounds like you are doing good thing for your deer heard and for friends etc...
