Most days you would probably be okay in that boat but if there was any kind of wind (10mph or more) you may get more wet then you would like. The nice part about mobridge is that if you put in right by town, there are a number of good fishing spots with in 2 miles of the ramp.

That river can get very rough with a good wind.

If you do get out there, fish the old railroad trussel right by town. Usually lots of walleyes there.

Thanks for the reply. I had figured to keep close to town as I've heard nasty stories about the wind. Some friends go to the Gettysburg area but I would like to go farther north.

I'm also heading up this direction this weekend. It's a 6 hour drive for us, and it'll be the first time ever fishing the River anywhere upstream of the Big Bend Dam (Ft. Thompson).

We would (of course) love to get a wall-mounter pike (20+lb) or walleye (10+lb), but would also be extremely happy with catching a nice mess of eater eyes (<20"... 20" and larger go back in the water) or pickling pike (3lb - 7lb).

So if anyone has any tips they'd like to share for a guy who's traveling a long ways to fish the area for the first time, I would GREATLY appreciate it! Thanks!!! grin.gif

We fished the river 3 times in 5 days. Caught 6 eyes last saturday afternoon. 6 more on Monday and 0 on Tuesday. Tuesday was so darn windy. All the fish were incredibly healthy, fat. All of our fish were 17 to 22 inches, one was 25". Real fat fish, I will post the pic tomorrow. We were using fireball jigs and minnows in 16 to 20 feet. We jigged the old railroad trussel as well as the new one.

Few boats out there. Doesn't get much easier than jig fishing. People were running a long way down river and were catching 2 to 3 over the course of a day.

We stayed right in town. No need to go any further.

Another good spot in town, right by the old pump house. If you have a Lake Oahe map, they make reference to it. Very good spot when the wind is blowing in there. With the water down, watch out for dead heads!

I know this is a little late, but the next time you need a Mobridge Walleye fishing report let me know. I live right in Mobridge and can generally give some advice that at least won't lead you in a wrong direction. So far this early ice off fishing has been very good near Mobridge. I know of a 9lb. and an 11 lb. eye that have come out. I think the walleye fishing will probably slow up for the next couple of weeks because I know some people have been out netting smelt so the run must be starting soon.
