I was out on Friday afternoon, only for a couple of hours though. Caught some in shallow pads, a few more on a deep crank in about 10-12 fot, so I dunno. I wasn't out long enough to find any patterns, only caught a few fish too. Maybe someone else can chime in?

Heading out to Waconia in an hour or so. Gotta try out a couple new lures that arrived yesterday... Great way to spend a sunday afternoon. Fished Howard lake yesterday. Decent numbers but all were on the small side. I fished from 5:15 - 7:30 and had two 24ish inch pike and 7 bass all under 16inches. Using shallow cranks and a jig.

Later...

Never made it out. Guy I was going with said the weather was too bad... at first I was like #@@^%# that lets just go... turns out he was right... Some crazy lightning, thunder and downpours followed our conversation by about a half hour... Now I'm working on my master's project and listening to the football game... Maybe next week. frown.gif

Went out yesterday to a west metro lake. Fished from 2-6 i think we ended up with 10-12 bass and 1 northern. We caught fish on 7 different presentations ranging from drop shot to scumfrog. The biggest bass was a hair under 18, but they are definetly starting to fatten up. Great weather to be on the lake, only one downpour that passed by soon enough.

Fished last Wed and Fri after work in the metro, my fishing partner caught a 19.5" on the first cast of the day Wed. Then followed it up with a 19"er within five minutes. I got skunked before we were pushed off by aproaching storms.

Friday it was my turn, outfished the other two guys 5-2. No size, most of the fish were found in shallow cover using plastics. Still going to try and get out for another month or so.

B-n-S... how did you do? What parts did you fish. You don't have to spill any info (tacktics, lures, specific locations) Just curious. I have a couple honey holes that have produced crazy numbers of fish in very small locations on that lake... some times they are there sometime not. I've never caught a huge bass there though...

Got out a couple days last week for a few hours here and there. Since tournies and clubs are pretty much wraped up been able to fish some smaller lakes a little north of the cities. Did pretty well both days. Fish look good (fat) Just looking for somewhat green weeds and fishing SLOW with X-jigs and slow rolling big bladed spinner baits. Going back out tomarrow will post if anything interesting.

OK kind of a funny story. So I went up to the "big Pond" this afternoon to have my boat looked at and my motor set up alittle different. Had a couple hours before I had to drop it off so I put in and went out to find some rocks. Went to a spot where I had caught some bass in the past. My first cast with a small spinner bait I get a 42 inch muskie. 2nd cast a 38 inch pike, And about every third cast after that had a fallow. Pretty cool right. Got bit off so ran my trolling motor out a ways to retie. In about 6 feet can still see bottom a little. I'm on top of about 6 or 8 good size rocks and sand all around them. So I reach down to grab another rod to go back in shallow and poof all my "rocks" scatter. So anyways stayed out a little deeper and caught one about 3.5 lbs. Just had to laugh. smirk.gif

I hit Waconia yesterday late afternoon. Big tournament had just finished. Must have been around 15 or so very top end Bass boats in the access and just preparing to leave... (man do I need a new boat....) Anyway, I got several looks as I put my 1969 alumacraft with my 8 hp tohatsu in. (I hate that s@%t by the way). Anyway I went straight to my fav spot as time was an issue with my wife. I started flipping a trigged worm, and mixing it in with a shallow crank. I fished for a little over two hours. Caught 5 fish total. Biggest was 18 3/4 inches, two were right at 18, and the two smallest were 17.25 and 17 even. Not bad. Makes me wonder how those "good" fisherman did that were giving me those looks. Anyway, what a great late afternoon weather wise. I was out there from 5-ish to right around 7. Saw a handfull of guys that looked like they were targeting eyes.

Snuck out of the office on Friday afternoon, 1st day with no wind and my being able to get out in I don't know how long. Long story short, best day of the year so far. 1:30 to 5:30, 43 fish, biggest just over 4lbs, majority between 16 and 18 inches. Fat, healthy, putting on the feed bag largemouth. Back and forth between a creature bait and a senko style bait. Color was not a factor, the only color senko I did not catch a fish on was white. Four different color creature baits, 5 different color senko's. Did get a nice pike with a spinnerbait after a follow on a piece of plastic. Did get bit off 5 different times. It was one of those days you were sorry there was no one there to enjoy it with you. Majority of the fish were in 3 to 7 feet of water tight to the green weeds and all over the lake, caught fish at every stop, with one area in particular, a stretch of about 50 yards accounting for about half the fish. Fanatastic day, no big fish but I'll take the numbers of 3's on spinning rod and a senko any day.

I was with the group of "good" fisherman you're speaking of. Sorry you felt you were getting looks. Apparently you felt they were bad looks (i.e. s@%t). I was standing on the ramp with all the others and looking at boats putting in and taking out. Doesn't matter if you're in a 69 Alumacraft or a 08 Ranger, in that situation guys are just gonna check things out. I can promise you that none of those guys had any negative thoughts towards you or your boat when you were putting in, I know them well enough they don't care. Matter of fact a couple guys from our club went over and helped push a non "top end bass boat" off the beach so him and his son could go fishing. This was a small club who fished for no money and simply bragging rights yesterday. Guess I've been stereotyped by non-fisherman before, but never a fellow fisherman.

Anyway, the "good fisherman that were giving you looks" had a good day on the water overall. Our last clubber of the season and it went out on a good note. It took 22.70 to win with 2nd at 20.40 and 3rd (myself) at 19.45.

The club had an excellent year this year. Our guys are getting better and better each year as they teach and learn from each other. Believe it or not, we even have a few guys in the club with non-bass boats, or even NO boat. It's about the fishing, that's it!

Sure. I can share with you what I did, but that's about it.

I really think what you did wasn't quite as important as where you did it. I believe a lot of guys were fishing the same pattern, and the big weights just relied on you being around bigger fish. I've spent a lot of time up there in the last few years picking things a part. However this was my first fall trip up there, so I had to do a lot of adjusting.

No secrets really... pitching to the greenest, best looking vegetation you could find. They seemed to be up in the thicker stuff earlier, and out more on the edge in the sparser stuff in the afternoon. Didn't really matter what you threw... jigs, tubes, worms. Just pitch it enough times to hit them on the head. NOT my favorite way to fish, but it got the job done (or almost did).

There were a few things figured out that helped produce the better fish I believe. However, the time spent on the water is what figured those out, so hopefully you respectively understand me not sharing those little details. With that though, I will kinda re-iterate what everyone knows... learn something from each and every fish. When you catch a fish, ask yourself why. Look around and take everything in. Even when you're not catching fish notice if anything is different. And ESPECIALLY when you catch a better fish, what was different. Figure that out, then try and go match it elsewhere.

RickyBobby (hilarious). Our club is a BASS Federation club, so it's individual competition. We draw for partners each tournament and you can't fish with the same person twice in a year. Our goal is to teach each other and learn from each other so we all become better anglers. I know in the 6 years that I've been in MN, I've learned a LOT.

We have around 33 members and this year we average about 23 or 24 guys per event. We fish 7 tournaments a year, where 1 of those is a 2 day event on the same lake that counts for 2 tournies. Best 5 of the 7 goes for your "State" points where you are trying to qualify to move on within the Federation.

We have both boaters and non boaters in the club. However, we have quite a few non boaters at this time, so unless we get some more boaters to join it might be a tad bit hard to get more non boaters in.

If you (or anyone) is interested in more information, please send me an e-mail at thefluker at gmail (Contact Us Please) com.

(And Bob, you bet, you're welcome)

Thanks,

Chuck
