Well what are some of your traditions? I have one that we have had for years... It's meat loaf tonight for supper and meat loaf sandwiches in the blind tomorrow. That has been a long standing tradition. And this year, for only the second year my son and I will take our hunting buckets and go sit and watch the sunrise with dad at the cemetery. Miss ya and love ya dad. Will be the first year that little black dog is not along on opener to frown.gif Good luck to all tomorrow. Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo

Sorry to hear about your dad and dog, duckslayer.

Our crew has a tradition before every opener. Beer, booze, and talk out by the campfire the night before and after the days hunt. Lots of story telling by the old guys about how they shoot all the birds but give the kids credit. Then I have to remind them how I win everytime we have a clay shooting contest. grin.gif

Our is leaving early Friday afternoon to head down to the Marshall area (And I'm still at work because of a stupid wedding tomorrow. mad.gifmad.gifmad.gif). Having some beers and booze and talk'ing most of the night with the same group of guys at the same place every year, and then getting up at 4am to head out to the slew.

This is the first time in 7 years I wont be making it....not counting a few years ago when I missed opener due to a broken ankle I sustained while wrestling at a golf tournament a two weeks before opener. That fall was no fun!

Thanks Ely. There was a time when I would not sleep at all tonight. Now it is just not the same. Don't get me wrong I still love duck hunting it is just somehow not the same. Maybe there will be some new traditions in the future that will make it that exciting again. Heard from young son tonight and he has to work tomorrow so I will be on my own. If ya see a guy pull up in a gold coloured S10 Jimmy at Oak Leaf lake tomorrow that will be me... stop by and have a cuppa coffee. Good luck guys! Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo

      Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!

      we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.

      I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
