North Shore Pinks and Coasters

I was up on the North Shore on 9/14 and only found pinks in 4 of the rivers. I also found a bunch of coasters. With this rain, they should be in every river now. Please remember that coasters are catch and release only. It would be wonderful if these beautiful fish could make a comeback.

I use a five weight because the extra backbone helps you cast if you have to use any split shot, but you could use a lighter rod. Pinks like egg patterns and an assortment of nymphs. Beware, however, when the wayward NS king grabs your fly on a five weight you usually are at the losing end of the battle. I always have my 8 weight along in the truck just in case.

Nice fish. Looks like a few nice bucked up males. Anybody seeing spawners?

I've heard the pinks are around with a few below the trap at the French.

Drink it up. It doesn't get any better than this time of year on the north shore-grouse, deer, and fish running the streams.
