Guest
I bought one of FISH'S saws a couple weeks age. One word says it all=AWESOME!!!I showed it to a few of my buddies and they said no way that things going to cut ice like a hot knife through butter. Well we work construction and we are building a house on a lake shore for a customer. So at lunch time we went out and cut a few holes, they could not belive their eyes. It cuts so easy with out any hard work, just push and pull, just that simple. Now they are going to go buy their own saws. Fish' sporting toys, what other toys do you make?? I probably need some other great toys!! Whoops the wife says I dont need anymore. Get back to the kitchen wifey!!
the big dipper
You're absolutely right about Fish's Saw working like a dream. If you've ever chipped out a 3 x 4 foot spearing hole with with a spud you'll be glad you got that motheaten franklin out of the wallet and traded it for one of his saws. It works alot like a good sharp wood cutting handsaw, just let the saw do the work cutting , and take long, easy, smooth strokes. Of course the thicker the ice gets the longer it takes to cut a hole, but I've cut out large spearing holes in 3 ft ice and there's no better way. (I've tried everything from an axe to a chainsaw - old time wood bucking saws, chippers, spuds, etc. Fish is a pretty creative and talented metalsmith - he also makes great spears, and he's started to build/market a great little cultivator implement to pull behind four wheelers and garden tractors (several sizes to match tractors in the 9N (15-30 HP) size category. Give him a call if you're interested. He's in the book: Wayne Benbo - Winger, MN.
rscabin
I think I saw a simaliar saw at Cabela's.The blade which was about 36 to 42 inches long folded down to the handle. I think it was around $150Seams like alot of $. I do alot of spearing and use a chain saw which is hard on the back. Is this saw similar to what you are talking about? and do you think that is a steep price to pay. Thanks for thr info
GullGuide
rscabin,Save $50 and buy it here from this site. The saw you describe from Cabela's sounds simalar, but take it from those of us who have used Fish Toy's, you can't beat it.With this saw you can make a square without taking the saw out to start another line, just twist the saw in the direction you wish to go as you are sawing and thats all there is to it. I have cut a turn with a radius of about 2-3 inches through 2 feet of ice with no problem. Here is the link-http://fishingminnesota.com/icesaw.html If you hurry over to the ice show in St Paul, we have some in stock, will save you on shipping charges

Guest
I wish I would have had one of these when I was younger,I moved my spear house every 3-4 days. Sometimes later in the season the ice would be 3 feet thick. My 10 year old son uses it with no problems at all. Just push and pull it.At least he can use it for many more years to come.Gotta get ya one!!!By the way we caught one 3# walleye and a half doz. slimers.[This message has been edited by Rick (edited 12-08-2002).]Sorry Rick!!I am still learning, what and what can not be posted here.[This message has been edited by Bigfoot (edited 12-09-2002).]
Fish Toys
The icesaw that is in Cabela’s is my icesaw as for what they charge for them is up to them. I do have a suggested retail price as a guideline. I have no idea what stores or bait & tackle shops they are in being I have a distributor to sell them to the various stores in Mn., Wi, Nd, Sd. I sell a large number of them off my webpage that Rick has set up for me in this link http://fishingminnesota.com/icesaw.html and they get shipped all over the USA from Alaska to the east coast. They all have my sticker on them and they are Harbor Blue in color. 42” blade with 9 sharp teeth. When it is folded closed they are 46” long and 84” folded open. Weighs a tad under 7 lbs so it is very light. You chip through with the icesaw and when you are through the ice start cutting any shape hole you want. Works especially great on first ice. Chip through in 1 or 2 chips and cut an angling hole and keep going till you have a bunch of holes cut in no time flat. Enough said being the WebPage says it all.The only thing I wish more people that have purchased my icesaw would leave some comments in the forums about it for the skeptical people that are still wondering about it.Thank you to the ones that have made the comments about the icesaw! The cultivators Mark (Big Dipper) is mentioning will be on the market in the spring. Can’t say too much about them yet till I get my marketing strategy figured out. Hmm wrong item for a fishing HSOforum. I do make a quality fish spear and also a 28” icesaw. Gotta go paint some more icesaws at this ungodly hour. Thanks and be careful and have fun and remember CPR! Wayne “FISH” If you are wondering how many I sell in a season it is around 500+ depending on the season. This season looks GREAT ------------------http://www.icesaws.com/

Piker
I used to use a hand auger to drill the first hole before I'd start sawing the spear hole. I'd drill two holes kitty corner to each other and cut two "L"'s. Last saturday I forgot my hand auger and just chipped a hole in the ice. The ice was about 8 inches or so and it went right through with a couple of chips. I then tried to cut a corner and that works great also. The key is letting the saw do the work. In my opinion if you spear, this saw is a must, or at least extremely handy.
we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted December 17, 2002 we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted December 17, 2002 This saw weighs only 7 lbs and is perfect for early/late ice up to 12" thick and it does cut very easily. It's great for spearfishermen for ice over 36" thick. You don't need an auger when you have the ICE SAW on early/late ice.It also makes a very cool display. Guest
We now have 16-18 inches of ice and the saw still saws real easy,a little harder on the corners, but not too bad.I think drilling a hole with the auger, kitty corner, and sawing to the holes really is the clear answer to thicker ice.I really like my saw, should have had one many years ago.If I see any of you guys on the lake and you want to try it out, just let me know.
