First-timer youth hunt question

Recommended Posts

I hunt quite a bit myself but I have never been out on youth hunt day. My neighbor has a 12 year-old son who took hunter's safety training and is curious to see what duck hunting is all about. If it works out for all of us I'd like to take them out on the youth hunt so they can see what it's like. My question is, just how busy is it out there on the day of the youth hunt? We're in Maple Grove and I would plan on taking them somewhere within a 45 mintue drive. How do the numbers compare to regular opener? 50%? Less? More? If there are places that are really busy on the youth hunt I'd like to know so I can avoid them.

Thanks for the help!

Come out to Pelican Lake near St. Micheal. It close to Maple Grove. Its a big lake and there is ussually plenty of room on youth day (I would not recomend going out there on the real opener though).

The Pelican Lake chapeter of MWA will be out there early providing donuts and drinks. From 10:00 to 2:00 we will be building duck houses and have some other activities at the public access.

Sherburne refuge is an area i took my son and most of his cousins. There are plenty areas to hunt both by foot or by boat. There was very little pressure when i took them there.Burl.
