I'm going OLD SCHOOL!!!!!!

So I was out playing around last night and figured I would go back to my youth with a 7" Berkley Power Worm. Not even sure why but I haven't fished them in years if not decades! LOL

So here is my question, do you worry about the tail being up or down? In my youth I would have never considered it and I am sure that I caught tons of fish both ways. Now that I am an experienced fisherman, know everything and have a huge head I think there has to be a difference. The stupid stuff we worry about as fisherman!!!!!! LOL

I am kidding of course about knowing everything but we as fisherman out think ourselves all the time. That is what got me thinking about the tail. We worry about it on a grub and I don't ever remember thinking about it on a worm before. Do you guys?

I still use Power Worms, I still use ring worms, I still use 4" curly tails, I still use just about every plastic style I used 10+ years ago. Why not? They are proven effective and bass have not evolved into a super intelligent fish. They're still greedy and dumb.

Which kind of transitions into rigging direction. I don't think it matters to the fish. I have some personal preferences (some baits rigged sideways twist the bejesus out of your line). Fish don't know what way the bait is supposed to be rigged. Besides, I don't like thinking all that hard when I'm fishing.

I regularly use 7'power worms as well as 10's. I do pretty darn good with them when conditions are right. I don't worry at all about the position of the tail but I do make sure the body of the worm is straight and the hook eye is lined up witht the business end of the hook.

I agree, we as fisherman have a big time tendancy to over think things. But, I think that is exactly what seperates the real good to good from the average to poor. Good luck with your wormin... smirk.gif

I love fishing 7in and 7.5in worms. I usually use a gumball jig with the tail pointing up intill it get tore up a bit and I have to switch. To answer your question I always rig my tail pointing up I don't know why it just looks "right" to me, but I've caught plenty of which pointed in all directions.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
