Channel Cattin' 101

Yesterday myself, EC30_06 and 24 other boat captains participated in the Scott Co. Sherrif's Catfish Derby that was eligable for 50 kids from the age of 12-16. We fished from roughly 7 in the morning till 1:30 in the afternoon and also had a big feed, lots of prizes , and some good story telling afterwards. But the main reason I decided to post this was that we caught and released over 3800 inches of fish during this time. That's roughly 10 fish per boat with a estimated average size of 15 inches. Yes the main bait was good old stink bait which just goes to show that it really isn't too difficult to catch channels in the Minnesota. Smallest fish was a 6" up to a 35" sumo. Sure we used cut bait as well, which generally landed the bigger fish , but of the 5 fish in my boat that where over 20", 3 where caught on stink bait.

No turtles and no sand bars. I haven't got the boat stuck yet, but someone got it wedged between some logs. It might have been the same guy that hit the rock.
