installing a well pump

bhs91

Question

I have a well pump that sounds like a small plane taking off every time we use anything in the house. I would like to upgrade and get a quieter pump. I am somewhat mechanically inclined and feel that I could do it but would like some input as to whether or not there are unforeseen problems that I could encounter. It is a "sandpoint", it is located right in our utility room. What are some quality well pumps that I could use?

Thanks for any help!

BHS

I replaced my old Sears green monster a year ago. Dependable pump but noisy. I think any new pump will be quiet, mine a Flotech.

Turn the power off at the breaker. smirk.gif

Your probably going to encounter rusted on fittings. Make a list of what you'll need and then get extra to return later.

As I pry loose the rusted fittings, any chance that I do anything to the well itself? Thanks for the reminder on the electrical, I could very easily see my self overlooking that. Flotech, where did you buy that? Up here I have fleet farm, home depot and Menards.

Thanks,

BHS

Got mine at Menards.

Without seeing your setup I can't give you a starting point. You might have a union and thats where you begin. If not cut off the pipe close to the pump then work on loosening the next fitting.

Always use two pipe wrenches so your not putting stress on other joints down the line.
