Whitefish Bay Lakers

Recommended Posts

Hey were going to be on Crow the end of August as well...what's wrong with fishing for lakers in Crow?

It will be our first time there, but we heard that it holds a decent population of Lakers.

Aug. 25th thru Sept 1st. How bout you? Targetting muskie primarily, so we picked the last full moon in August to fish it. I will probably spend some time fishing lakers and maybe head to LOW for a day for some eye's. Depends how the muskies are going I suppose.

What do you usually target there? What's the best method for lakers on Crow, jiging or deep trolling.

We'll be up the 26th-30th...Usually our trip is spent chasing mostly lakers on Crow..a little smallmouth and muskie fishing too...For years all I have done for lakers on Crow is jig, last year I got downriggers and that works as well..We are staying at Muskie Bay..If that's where you are I could give you a few starting spots...I know night trolling is the most effective way to chase ski's on Crow that time of year...lots of rocks to hit out there though..

Yeah I'll be drivin a white silverado with a white/tan alumacraft with a suzuki tiller....Look me up for sure! Not sure what cabin we are in yet but I do know that I am excited.

My brother in law is the laker nut, we stayed on LOW last year in Sabaskong and he wanted to go to whitefish but never made it, but I think he did get some tips from someone...I'll ask him. How is Crow for laker number?

I never downrigged for lakers but it should work that way you can cover more water. This time of year I usually drop a 1 - 1 1/2 oz white jig in deep water. Sometime we just drift and drop the jig to the bottom and reel it in and do that over and over. Biggest laker I ever seen caught was by doing this. They really slam it especially when you are reeling it in. One time I caught a 7-8 lb laker on Dogpaw lake by doing this and it hit about 10ft below the boat. May sound like a lot of work doing all that reeling in. Been a few years since I fished for lakers in the summer up in Whitefish bay. Been up a few times this spring. Went up there quite a bit when I was a teen, took a boat out of Morson and spent the whole day up on Whitefish. We would fish bass, musky and lakers. Dont think I will be fishing for lakers til next winter. Have fun and just like any lake there is always a few rocks that can hurt. B-dude
