Jiffy Coning attachment

Just wondering if anyone has tried the Jiffy Ice auger attachment that cones the bottom of your holes. I had a large pike that I couldn't get up the 8" hole on upper Red. Should I just get a 9" auger flighting?

I popped a 28 lb laker through a 8" hole. Fitting isnt the problem its getting the fish started up the hole and thats what the cone attachment is made for. We sometimes chisel a cone in our holes but its not a nice smooth surface. I've heard about the cone but have never saw it in opperation. Sure be nice on a 10" auger jiggin for Lakers. Would help from gettin bumped off on the bottom of the hole.

Surface Tension - Where do you do your lake trout fishing? I assume you go to some places up in Canada. I have always wanted to get into iceing some laker's. Do you have any suggestions on places to go/start. Maybe if you have some good resorts/places that you've stated at. Thanks!

If anyone is interested, I have an "ice-cone'r" attachment for a Jiffy 10 inch flighting that I no longer use. Worked great! I would be willing to sell it for $30.00 (U.S. funds) and you pay the shipping/mailing costs. Reply with phone # or e-mail contact.

The item you are looking for is the Ice Angler from Outdoor Creations. They are no longer manufacturing or promoting this item. If you contact them they might have a few laying around.

This attachment worked on Jiffy or Strike Master chipper augers. A lot of people think Jiffy came out with it.

I got a cone attachment new in the box from the guy who sold me my used 10" Strikemaster XL-3000. Put her on and used her a few times. Worked just fine, but took extra time. Drill a lot of holes and it just seems like too much hassle. Plus, I haven't lost a fish on the bottom of the 10" hole yet. That includes pike up to 14 lbs through three feet of ice.

Maybe I just haven't been on fish big enough to bump off at the hole, like ST. grin.gif

Stfcatfish A slimmer just lays there when you slid um up on the ice. smile.gif Most trout trash like he_l. If we do a laker trip bring the cone with. smile.gif
I have an 8" and my good'ol fishin buddy Reefraker has the 10". I will ask him if he wants the cone and get back to ya tommorrow.
Walleynate Most my winter Laker fishin is on the Gunflint trail. Lotsa resorts to stay at but are costly and fill up fast so call ahead for a res. Beware some of the resorts up there arent snowmobile friendly. I like Heston's on Gunflint lake. A few Laker lakes are Gunflint, Mayhew, Birch, Loon, Saginawga.

Sorry ST, sold the coner at a garage sale couple years back. So you're a lake trout snob, eh? Talking down those pike, eh?

OK, I gotta believe you. Open water, the pike I've caught can't compete with those lakers. No reason to believe the pike I've caught under ice have fought harder than the lakers I haven't caught under ice will.

Did you understand that? Not sure I did.

ST: Haven't you ever tried beer slush? grin.gif You live on a good pike lake? Sheesh, must be nice. I live on the busiest residential corner in Superior. No wonder you're such a peaceful fellow while I'm all strung up with worry all the time. cool.gif

Shoot me an e-mail about that pike lake and where to set tips, if you feel like sharing. Haven't done much ice fishing yet in NE Minn since moving here. Wouldn't mind learning a few spots.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
