DCON
How much are you guys putting down on your first baiting? How much will it take to start pulling them in? We have 4 55 gallon barrels of candy, and am debating on getting more.
walterman
Depending on how much bait you put out and how often you bait would determine how much bait you need. Since the baiting season is a week shorter this year, I would say you should be ok. The group of guys that I hunt with bait almost every day.We have 3 chest freezer full of doughnuts, meat scraps from a local butcher shop, we have a 55 gallon drum full of corn and oats that is fermenting in sugar, we will have another one full of sweet corn and apples, grease, and some dog food.We run about 9 to 10 baits for 6 guys. I like giving the bear as much variety as I can so if you can get your hands on some bait go for it otherwise you should be ok.
tealitup
How much would you put out if you could only bait once a week to ten days?

charliepete2
Quote: How much would you put out if you could only bait once a week to ten days? At the most I'd stretch it 7 days. It would be hard to get enough bait on to keep them interested past that. I bait every 5 days and put around 150#'s out each time.
walterman
boar...to answer your question, all I do is mix the sugar with the oats, add water, use a little yeast and let it sit out in the sun covered up. I have a batch going right now and it looks and smells really good. Next week I will add some apples to the mix as well. We did this last year and the bears seemed to like it a lot.
