Traveling to Alaska

Recommended Posts

I posted this on the Canada form. So I'll try it here too.

This August I plan on driving to Alaska from Minnesota. I have made that trip several times, but not in recent years. What can I expect when I tell the Canadians that I have a couple of rifles and a shotgun. In the past this was never an issue, but times have changed. If it is going to be a hassel, I just might fly, and rent a car when I get there. However, I would much rather drive. Would like to hear from someone that transported guns to Alaska, or knows anything about this issue. Thanks.

I am sure someone will chime in that has 1st hand experience but if you show up at the border with any firearms (without proper Canadian permits) you will be denied entry. Search a Canadian site of some sort to find what the rules are. I think it is expensive and a hassle. You would be best off shipping them to an Anchorage gunshop or something like that. That is what I have decided to do when I drive up there the next time.

Check with a gun shop. I did a little searching and it said fed ex and ups will ship to and from authorized shippers of firearms. Good luck - there has got to be a way to do it.
