Boss Hogg
This August I plan on driving to Alaska from Minnesota. I have made that trip several times, but not in recent years. What can I expect when I tell the Canadians that I have a couple of rifles and a shotgun. In the past this was never an issue, but times have changed. If it is going to be a hassel, I just might fly, and rent a car when I get there. However, I would much rather drive. Would like to hear from someone that transported guns to Alaska, or knows anything about this issue. Thanks.
Down Deep
You should go online to the canadian immigration HSOforum. There is a section on transporting firearms into Canada. I belive you will have to get a permit from them. Cost is about $100 per gun.
Wild Thing
You'll need a Canadian Firearms Declaration and the cost is much cheaper now, it's only about $40 now and is good for a month. It takes my guests who come to hunt with me about 20-30 miinutes to fill it out if its not too busy. You can do them in advance and fax them to some border crossings to speed the process. Check the HSOforum at http://www.cfc-cafc.gc.ca/online-en_ligne/form-assistance/indiv_forms/909_e.asp A betterc bet (although it's probably to late for your case) is to get a PALS card which allows you to poses, use and buy firearms and ammo in Canada, but you have to take a safety course and a test.
