UMDSportsman Posted July 12, 2007 Share Posted July 12, 2007 they are not perfect, and you don't know what trips it for sure, but we have used them, just the type with the cheap watch clock in a green/camo box with the white plastic strip out the side. We (my father, sister etc. who bear hunt) would put them on the bait, with some success. We would always put the bait by a tree and tie the string on a log that we would put on the far side of the bait as the tree. we had problems with the string that came with, so we resorted to mono fishing line. they also were not water proof so there were some problems with water. we had some problems, but for how cheap they were what do you expect.
