Nils auger

I will be purchasing a Nils power auger and am wondering what size to get (since there is now a choice). I am 5'10", any help would be appreciated.

I really like the 8" model. Its very light and also cuts very fast. 48" auger and you wont or shouldn't need an extension.

This Nils is the best auger I personally have ever cut ice with, bar none.

Another vote for the 8". I went with 48" shaft rather than the 42" as I fish URL a lot and that ice gets thick. At 5'10" it shouldn't be an issue for you. I'm an 1 1/2" taller and the longer shaft was not an issue.

You'll love the new machine. Make sure to do a search for the break in process. It's been covered here a few times.

I think the center point will help make the 48" bit safer when the cutting starts. I am 6'0" and the 48" is just fine. The ice may not get thicker than a couple feet but there is a surge of water once you break through so better to have a little room for error before getting the hot motor wet. It is an awesome machine, you may want to check out Amsoil Sabre Pro which is synthetic 2 stroke oil to make it extra happy.

I would go 48" length and 8" girth. Once you run a Nils anything else just dont stack up.
