Hotspotter
Fellow pro-staffer Mike Walerak and I just got back from a weekend stay with our families, and can't say enough good things about Highbanks Resort on Lake Winnie .....and the fishing. We had the opportunity to stay in Cabin #1, a large CCC-era log-cabin which overlooked the lake and the launch area. The natural stone fireplace and rustic beauty of the log-cabin were a real treat. The fishing went well too, with plenty of larger fish, and more than enough eaters to keep us satisfied. While the fishing was great, the family activities were just as good: Swimming- The shallow water and soft sand extend well-beyond the dock to make for some great swimming. Kids- Highbanks is a rarity in the resort industry, in that ALL KIDS UNDER 18 STAY FREE . Along with a water trampoline, lawn games, crafts, and playground equipment; there's many fishing opportunities, including panfish. Flexibility- Rick and Kim are incredibly easy going, and worked hard to ensure we had a good time. They allow bookings of less than a week, another rarity for many resorts. They've got all the amenities of home, along with the opportunity to purchase many goods/items you may have forgotten. Bait and full-service bar is available, and fishing information is quite good and free of charge! Camping- New to Highbanks is a 15-site full-hookup campground. For those of you interested in tenting it, or just needing a place to crash for the night, this is a great option, right on the lake! There are many reasons we'd choose to come back, especially with our families. Oh, and if you're interested in jumbo perch, apparently there's a pretty good bite a short boat-ride from Highbanks come August. Kim mentioned a group comes back every year to take advantage of the hot bite. Contact Information http://www.highbanks.com/ 1-800-365-2560 Thanks again Highbanks, we had a great time! FWA
Looks like fun!!! How old is your son? I don't think my 27 month old son would like being in the boat for more than 5 minutes....

Mike Walerak
High Banks is a great place to stay, whether you are going on a hard core fishing trip or a family vacation with some fishing mixed in. We some how managed both and everyone was happy by trips end. The kids had a blast swimming and we had just as much fun out catching walleyes as we did around campfire after the kids went to sleep. I should also mention the very nice fish cleaning facilities. mw

Hotspotter
FWA:My son is the same age as yours, but you're right, he gets a bit antsy when there's not much action. He really seems to like the trip to and from the fishing hole however.Joel
