Cedar vs. vinyl fence

My wife does daycare and I need to put up a 4' high fence around the backyard. Which material would be the best to use. I can't do a chain link fence because the covinents in my area don't allow it. So I am trying to decide between cedar or vinyl. Any info would be appreciated.

First of all I have chain link fencing, but I see plenty of wood and vinyl fencing in the neighborhood. The cedar needs upkeep (staining or painting) or it will turn a ugly gray and in a daycare setting it is more likely to produce slivers. Some folks have used the green treated boards and after two or three years they curl at the ends and really look bad. The vinyl looks really good, the colors don't fade and it needs no maintenance. I don't know what the cost difference is, but unless it's real factor given the two choices, I'd use vinyl.

For vinyl, make sure to get a warranty statement, as I have seen several (WBL area) that have been knocked over from snow, probablly getting hit by snow plow spray, but they must have gotten cold and brittle. Something to ask about anyway. I think there might be some that are wood wrapped in vinyl which would be sturdier.
