I need help rigging up a 24 volt trolling motor

I am re-doing my boat and I have a used 24 volt Minn Kota auto pilot 48 lb. thrust trolling motor. My questions are: Do I wire the batteries parallel or series? Also, I am having trouble finding room for two batteries in the front of the boat - should both batteries have the same reserve capacity and maximum cranking amps? I can fit the one I have in the rod locker but I would need a smaller one to fit in the front storage compartment Any advice would be helpful - Thanks

For a 24 volt trolling motor your batteries need to be connected in series.

Ideally your batteries should be the same kind and about the same age for maximum performance.
