Ice Scout, Glacier III or Otter

Recommended Posts

I am debating about getting one of 3 options, buying the ice scout for my wheeler, the Glacier III Pro Fishing Shelter, or buying an Otter big enough for 2 people. I know this has been debated on here before but I am looking at buying one of these real soon and need some help deciding. Thanbks in advance for the help.

Take am otter home with ya. Nothin beats it. You bank the house to keep you warm an still have the zippered door. The canvas is heavy(which I like, others don't) Tehy set up fast and ride with a snowmobile or 4x4 like a dream. and theres plenty of room in the medium cabin. The sled doubles for many situations. You can't go wrong

Wobbler,Ive got the small otter den,And I can fit my wife in there with me.So if you buy the med. that will hold two with no problem. Buy it you"ll love it.But dont forget to buy the hitch for pulling with you 4 wheeler. And they make nice seats for them too.Just my 2 cents. ><sUMo>-------><> -->o-t-t-e-r<-- Oh, and dont for get the Hyfax runners for the bottom makes for a mean machine

Thanks so much for the replies. Lip Ripper told me to get the otter. I just know I can get a brand new Glacier III or Ice Scout for cost. Plus like Lip Ripper has said if you can't go out with your wheeler or the snow is too deep for your wheeler you can pull your sled out! I am starting to lean towards the Otter.

The Otter is definitely the Cadillac of fish houses. Very good units. The cover could be improved a bit, but overall very solid and portable units. Lots of them out their and folks who are talking about them are usually not familiar with the Ice Scout or Glacier III. They like their Otters as I do mine.

The Ice Scout is designed for those who fish out of their ATV's and want to be easily mobile. The unit actually helps hold gear on the tail of the ATV. It sets up in about 10 seconds with the stool ready to sit on and fish. Being easily mobile usually means a person is willing to move more often and this normally means you will be on fish more often as well. It is also much less expensive than the Otter.

The Glacier III has a high quality cover, is light, and easily set-up, and much less expensive than the Otter. It compares with the Sno-boat only the Glacier III is a better unit because of ease of set-up. If you're on a budget and looking for a high quality, light, easily pulled unit then the Glacier is for you. If you are going to be pulling it behind an ATV or snowmobile, you'll want to attach plastic runners to give the sled years of use.

I will probably buy the Ice Scout simply because I can get it for cost. The concerns I have is if there is so much snow and I can't take my wheeler out and use it. Second, I worry about the room inside the scout for 2 holes and a heater. Third, I like to have company with while I am fishing.

Wobbler,
The Ice Scout is a 1 person portable, if you need a 2 person portable, the Ice Scout is not for you. You may want to consider the Glacier III

The Ice Scout is designed for those who want to really get after the fish, which means being easily mobile and moving to where the fish are biting.

It's a proven fact that being more easily mobile when ice fishing puts the odds more in your favor when it comes to catching fish.

Those highly mobile, elite ice anglers are who the ATV "Ice Scout" and snowmobile "Side Angler" were designed for.

For those who want to ice fish with others in the fish house the Otter or Glacier III are what you are looking for, depending on your budget.

The Otter Lodge is roughly twice as much as a comparable Glacier III.

The new Otters have push tabs that connect the fabric to the sled instead of the old ties or bungee cord that would sometimes loosen up. It's a pretty nice snug fit now. I have an older 2-man Fish Trap. I like it but if you want to zip across the lake pulling one behind a snowmobile - Otter's the MAN!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
