Screen replacement....

Hey guys! I have had to replace the screens on the storm doors beacuse of the dogs. Wasn't bad. I just bought the roller tool (Cheap price too) and the rubber rope and a roll of screen material. The metal stuff is a bugger but the fiberglass stuff is way easier.

Now the dang dog jumped out a different window other than the door. No biggie I can replace it right? I guess not. The screen is glued in the groove. Some kind of caulk maybe. But it don't come out. Now there's no room to roll the rubber rope into. Any ideas how to replace the screen in this type of situation? Thanks in advance.

You could try putting a caulk remover like Motsenbacher's in the groove to see if it will disolve the caulk.

Dude, is it pliable??? Can the mystery goo be cut with a box cutter? If so you may want to cut it out.

Are they wood or alum.vinyl? what brand? never seen glued in screens,There must be a keyway of some sort? If ya know the brand check their site! Not all screens are held in with vinyl cord.

Don't know the brand. They are aluminum and the caulk in the groove is hard as a rock. Can't seem to find a beginning or an end of the glue. Gonna maybe try the utility knife. Gotta be some way of getting the stuff out of the groove.

I wonder if someone may have used a hot glue on them? I've seen too many mickey mouse repair jobs with that junk.Try some heat on it?

Hey guys I did it!

The utility knife was the ticket. I sliced down each side of the groove-slot. All around all four sides. It came out like a hard plastic. Long hard strips. I invisioned way worse. New screen is already in and now we have Mom happy too.
