Yellow Lake Muskie Opener

Recommended Posts

How do you guys do on Yellow Lake for muskie? Ive been going there for about 3 years and the only place I can get them to hit or follow is right at the opening of the river. Anyone have any suggestions to find them? If so that would be great.

The river is a good start . Follow the shore line all the way around and work the weed edge . I haven't had much luck there myself but a friend who does fish Yellow with great results follows that rule of thumb . GOOD LUCK !

Most of the muskies Ive hooked have been within a 1/4 mile of the mouth of the river ...the big flat just west of the mouth gets weedy early and has deep water close ,,,fish the weed edge

Good Luck

I rarely fish the river area, although I know it's good there. That tends to be one of the most talked about spots on the lake. I definitely have my favorite stretches/areas out there. But anywhere, really, around the entire lake can be good. My suggestion is to concentrate on the 3 to 8 foot depths and you should do well. Don't be afraid to fish inside the weedline where it's nothing but sand either. There are definitely times when that's where you want to be. There's only a few spots where the weeds grow as deep as 10 feet. It's these few spots that I've had some success that deep. Otherwise it's shallower than 8 feet where I find the fish.

Keep in mind, there are no rules and deep probably works too. I know of some people that work off the deep breaks with success as well. I just have never seen fish there, personally.

Fished Yellow Saturday only. Saw lots of fish but no eaters for us. Got one nice walleye and a load of pike. Gliders & Suicks worked the best. The fish we saw were on the wind blown shore on the weed edge. Weird day with the wind and cold front that moved through in the late afternoon early eve. The wind swithed around almost 180 degrees in a few minutes it seemed.
